This 5-bedroom Scottsdale residence represents a comprehensive approach to entertainment-focused residential design. The project brief required accommodating 17 guests while creating distinct activity zones that prevent overcrowding and allow simultaneous use by multiple groups. The solution divides the property into four primary zones: formal living/dining, dedicated game room, outdoor recreation areas, and private sleeping quarters. The interior layout centers around an open-concept kitchen and living space that serves as the circulation hub, with sightlines carefully managed to maintain visual connection between spaces while preserving acoustic separation.
The standout design element is the speakeasy-themed game room, which houses a curated collection of entertainment options including poker table, shuffleboard, arcade games, basketball shootout, billiards, and a custom sports bar setup. This space required specialized considerations for equipment placement, traffic flow during peak use, and electrical infrastructure to support multiple gaming stations. The living area features built-in massage chair integration and AV systems designed for group viewing. Material selections throughout emphasize durability for high-traffic scenarios while maintaining residential warmth through layered textures and Arizona-appropriate color palettes.
The outdoor design maximizes the Arizona climate through a resort-style pool and expansive patio system with covered and exposed zones. The backyard functions as a multi-sport complex featuring a regulation sports court equipped for basketball and pickleball, a dedicated putting green with practice cage for golf training, and lawn game areas for bocce ball, cornhole, and oversized cup pong. These elements required careful site planning to ensure proper drainage, equipment storage solutions, and lighting design for evening use. The hot tub and fire pit anchor separate gathering zones that provide quieter alternatives to the active recreation areas.
Technical systems include smart lock integration for keyless entry, high-speed WiFi infrastructure designed to support multiple simultaneous users, and climate control zoning that accounts for Arizona's extreme temperatures. The property earned finalist recognition in the 2025 AvantStay Awards, validating the design's success in creating a high-capacity entertainment environment that balances activity-driven programming with comfort and livability for extended group stays.
